Obstetrics and Gynaecology


The department of obstetrics & gynaecology at SUT Pattom, is dedicated to the care of pregnant women and women with diseases of reproductive system from infancy to postmenopausal period.

The department is headed by retired senior professors from Government Medical Colleges and enriched by several senior experienced faculty.

The dimensions of care involves:

Obstetric Services :

  • Care of normal & abnormal pregnancy
  • High risk pregnancy management, like hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (preeclampsia, eclampsia) diabetes complicating pregnancy multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets and higher order) preterm labour management. Management of recurrent pregnancy loss, other systemic disorders like thyroid, SLE, heart disease, epilepsy etc.
  • Provision for painless labour - Epidural analgesia is given to mothers requesting for pain relief in labour

Gynaecology Services:

  • Management of adolescent problems, counselling
  • Premarital counselling
  • Abdominal / vaginal / laparoscopic hysterectomies
  • Management of tumours of uterus & ovaries.
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding, conservative and operative.
  • Gynaecological cancer screening, treatment including chemotherapy.
  • Colposcopy services.
  • Treatment of genital prolapse
  • Menopausal & postmenopausal problems
  • Hormone replacement therapy.

Infertility

  • Basic evaluation and treatment of infertile couple
  • Intrauterine insemination.
  • Infertility related endoscopic surgery.
  • Hysteroscopy

Family Planning services.

  • Medical termination of pregnancy
  • Oral pills, injectables
  • Copper T and hormone containing devices
  • Female sterilisation – minilap and laparoscopic

Endoscopic Services

All types of endoscopic surgeries, both diagnostic and therapeutic (Endoscopic procedures for ectopic pregnancy, ovarian tumours, fibroids, genital proplase, chocolate cysts etc)

Neonatal services

Since we have a well-equipped neonatal ICU and round-the-clock qualified faculty, we are able to look after preterm and low birth weight babies transferred in utero from other institutions

Tertiary multidisciplinary care facilities

Since we have tertiary care facilities and in-house specialists, we are able to manage all kinds of pregnancy-related medical and surgical complications
